Playing with friends (multiplayer)

Host a group adventure for up to four players — lobbies, invites, turn order, group chat and what only the host can do.

Any adventure can become a shared one. Up to four players (including the host) take turns writing the story together.

Starting a group adventure#

There are two ways to start:

A lobby: everyone sets up first#

Use Play with Friends on a scenario's page, or choose Create a Multiplayer Lobby from the Play menu and pick a scenario (from Popular or My Scenarios).

You'll land in a waiting room. Invite your friends, and each player fills in Set up your character — their Name, a Class if the scenario has classes, and their Stats — then presses Ready. When everyone's ready, the host presses ▶ Start Adventure.

Once a lobby adventure has started, new players can't join it.

Invite friends into any adventure#

In a normal adventure, the host can invite friends at any time, even mid-story. Tap the cover image in the header to open Now playing, choose Invite a Friend, and press Invite next to a friend's name. The button shows how many seats are filled, out of 4.

The Tutorial can't be played as a group.

Accepting an invite#

When a friend invites you, you'll get a pop-up and a notification. Open the 🔔 Social panel, go to the Invites tab and press Accept (or Decline). If the adventure is already full, you'll be told so.

Taking turns#

Players take turns in seat order. A bar at the top shows everyone at the table, with a marker for whose turn it is. While you wait you'll see "Waiting for {name}'s turn…".

When it's your turn, you get a notification. If you're offline, you can also get an email reminder — at most one per adventure every six hours. You can turn these emails off in Settings → Notifications (see Account settings and profile).

Group Chat#

The Chat button in the header has a Group Chat tab for talking out-of-character with everyone at the table. Messages can be up to 2,000 characters. The Messages tab has your private conversations with friends.

What only the host can do#

The host (the player who created the adventure) is in charge of the story itself:

  • Undo, Retry, editing passages, rewinding and switching branches.
  • Changing the adventure's settings — AI Instructions, Plot Essentials, content strictness, image model and so on.
  • Skip their turn — shown next to "Waiting for…", for when someone's stepped away.
  • Remove a player — from the ⋯ menu on their name in the turn bar. They'll be told they were removed.
  • Inviting more players.

Everyone can take turns, add or claim their own Character card (This is me), use chat and report content.

Leaving#

Guests can leave from Now playing → Leave Adventure. You'll lose your seat, and the host would need to invite you again to come back. The host can't leave their own adventure — they can delete it from Saves instead.

Who pays for what#

  • Each player pays for their own turns. Any credits a turn uses come from the player who took it, and each player's own plan sets their usage limits.
  • Scene images from the See action are charged to the host.
  • Premium narration is paid by whoever plays it.
  • The Memory Bank size follows the host's plan.
  • By default the adventure uses the model and free context of the plan the host had when creating it. If a player picks a specific model, their own plan decides whether they can use it.

Safety at the table#

Each player's name in the turn bar has a ⋯ menu with Report and Block. Now playing → Report Story Content reports the story itself. Blocking someone stops you being put in shared adventures together in future, but doesn't remove them from the current one. See Reporting and blocking.
