Saves, archiving and backups

Find and manage your adventures on the Saves page, restore archived ones, export your story and back up or import a save.

Every adventure saves automatically after each turn. The Saves page (in the bottom bar on phones, or the avatar menu on desktop) lists them all.

Finding a save#

  • Search your saves… — matches the save's name or the scenario's title.
  • Sort — Recently played (the default), Newest, Most actions or A–Z.
  • Show — All, Hosted (ones you started), Joined (other people's multiplayer adventures), Lobbies or Archived.
  • Style — Any, Story or RPG.
  • Grid view / List view — remembered on this device.

Press Continue on a card to jump back in. Clicking elsewhere on the card opens the scenario's page instead.

The ⋯ menu#

On adventures you host, the ⋯ menu has:

  • Rename — give the save its own name (up to 200 characters). Clear the name to go back to the scenario's title.
  • Edit — open the scenario in the editor.
  • Export — download the story as a readable file (see below).
  • Delete — permanently delete the save. This can't be undone.

Archived adventures#

Adventures that haven't been played for a while are moved to cold storage automatically, so they don't slow anything down:

Novice (free) Paid plans
Archived after 30 days without play 60 days without play

Archived saves show an Archived badge and appear under the Archived filter. Press Restore to bring one back — nothing is lost.

Exporting your story#

To keep a readable copy of your tale, use ⋯ → Export on the Saves page, or Download Adventure in the adventure's Settings → Scenario → Details. You'll get a Markdown (.md) file with the title, the date and every turn — your actions and the narrator's text — on your current branch. Other branches aren't included.

Backups#

A backup is a complete copy of an adventure that you can import again later.

Export Backup#

In the adventure, open Settings → Scenario → Details and press Export Backup. You'll get a file ending in .rpgcortex-backup.json. It includes:

  • Every turn on every branch.
  • All State Cards, stats and summaries.
  • The adventure's settings — AI Instructions, Plot Essentials, Author's Note, Story Background, content strictness, player name and more.

It doesn't include generated images, the Memory Bank, or other players.

Import Backup#

On the Saves page, press Import Backup and choose a backup file (up to 10 MB). It becomes a brand-new solo adventure, with you as the host, and opens straight away.
